Hi! My name is Kamila, I am 27 yo and I moved to USA by myself when I was 21 from Russia, all these 6,5 years I am proudly call Florida my home. My husband, Oleksandr, or Alex, is 29 and he moved to Florida from Ukraine 8 years ago. We met in 2018, and our friendship grew to something much bigger – love. We got engaged in 2020 and in 2022 we finally got married, very quietly, for ourselves. Being immigrants, without any help from our families and building our lives from scratch we’ve been working really hard all these years. We understood that we have to get back on our feet to have kids, we realized that its a lot of responsibilities to grow a family so we were keeping postpone planning a baby until we knew we are able to give him a best life he deserve! We bought our first house, made it a home, we bought two cars. My husband works really hard as a server in restaurant, while I am building a beauty business,opened a salon in 2023. Whenever we felt that we are financially ready, we started trying to get pregnant. A year passed, no success, we started to get nervous, started to make doctor appointments to see what’s going on. We live in small town, so it took us 3-4 months for some appointments. After some testes we found out that the problems from my husband’s side. Unfortunately, due to not enough qualified doctors after 9 months of different appointments, my husband was diagnosed wrong, and even were referred to have a surgery, which ended up he didn’t need at all. After that we were referred to UAB Hospital, where we finally got diagnosed after 2 years of trying to get pregnant. By that time we started to loose the believe, we were looking at the worst scenarios, and just hoping that there’s any way we could have our own baby, if you would just know how hard were these 2 years for our family. So after seeing the fertility doctor at UAB hospital we found out that my husband has infertility due to absences of tubes the sperm travel through. This is inborn issue which can’t be fixed surgically. So there’s no way we can get pregnant natural way. Here’s when the ground slipped out from under my feet for the first time. Imagine the picture when you are finally getting pregnant, and your husband has no idea yet, and you surprising him with your pregnancy the cutes way possible. Sounds like a dream, which unfortunately will never come true in our case. BUT. We are still able to have our own biological baby! Yes, not naturally, but OUR own baby, with the help of IVF ( thanks god for all this possibilities of medicine). And we got so much hope when we heard it! But then we’ve been told how much it will cost us ( $5000 – for sperm retrieval surgery, $10000 for IVF only + cost of medication, genetic testing, emryo freezing and more ) – and here’s when the ground slipped out from under my feet for the second time. We are so closed, but so far away from our dream. And I just can’t believe that all the money we’ve been working for all these years can be just gone so fast leaving us with no financial cushion. I am so grateful we have this chance of IVF, but unfortunately the amount we have to pay for it is the only barrier between us and our dream baby.
